Governance For Families In Business Conference to be Held June 19-22

June 1 , 2007

A four-day seminar designed to guide family-owned businesses through the challenges of creating high-performing governing boards will be held Tuesday through Friday, June 19-22. "Building Family Boards and Councils" is sponsored by the University of Southern Maine's Institute for Family-Owned Business and will take place in Freeport's Harraseeket Inn.

"Our primary objective is to provide practical knowledge and insights participants can use to gain more value from their boards," write Harry Fraser, CEO of Thos. Moser Cabinetmakers, and Jack Moore, a fourth generation family member and former director on the board of Benjamin Moore & Co. Both have been volunteer leaders in conference planning.

Keynoters for the conference include Anne Eiting Klamar, CEO, president and a member of the fourth generation leading the Midmark Corp. of Versailles, Ohio; Tom Chappell, founder of Tom's of Maine and the Saltwater Institute; and Mary Schmid Daugherty, a finance professor at the University of St. Thomas, Minneapolis, a third-generation family business owner, and president of the Family Council.

Among the presentations offered during the three-day conference are: "The Right Time to Form a Board," "Overcoming Resistance to Change," and "Recruiting New Directors."

Fees include room and meals, with a significant discount for the second registrant from the same family business. Full conference details are available at http://www.usm.maine.edu/ifob/exeedu/welcome.html.
