News ReleasesHistorian Speaks on Gettysburg's Lost History at USM February 26, 2007 Margaret S. Creighton, professor of history at Bates College and specialist in 19th-century U.S. History, will present "The Colors of Courage: Gettysburg's Forgotten History - Immigrants, Women, and African Americans in the Civil War's Defining Battle" at 7 p.m., Thursday, March 8, in the University Events Room of Glickman Family Library, Portland. Creighton teaches courses on the Civil War and is the chair of Bates College's American Cultural Studies Program. She's published several books, including "Rites and Passages: The Experience of American Whaling" and "Dogwatch and Liberty Days: Seafaring Life in the Nineteenth Century."
