News ReleasesIntimate Portraits from War-Torn Countries on Exhibit at USM August 3 , 2007 An auction and exhibition reception for the photography exhibit, “Portraits from the Edge of the World,” will take place from 5-7:30 p.m., Saturday, August 11, in the University Events Room of USM’s Glickman Family Library, Portland. The photographs on exhibit are by Charles Carpenter, and are on display in the adjacent UNUM Great Reading Room and on the Library’s 5th floor. The exhibit will be on display during Library hours (see: http://library.usm.maine.edu/about/hoursSummer2007.html) through Thursday, August 30. The auction will benefit the International Childhood Enrichment Program (ICEP), an organization founded by Carpenter and based in Portland. ICEP builds safe playgrounds for children in each of the countries Carpenter has photographed. Currently, ICEP has constructed 10 playgrounds using local materials and labor. Services and goods being auctioned range from ballroom dancing lessons to a dog sled trip, and goods range from an antique mantle clock to jewelry and framed works of art.
