Construction to Reduce Traffic on Bedford Street

June 1, 2007

We're sending the following notice about lane closures on Bedford Street on behalf of USM Facilities Management. As noted below, please call 228-8124 with questions.

Dear Members of the USM Community:

Much of Bedford Street will be reduced to one-way, beginning Monday, June 4, through Friday, June 15. The one-way traffic will allow us to complete utility work as part of the University Commons construction.

Traffic on Bedford Street between Winslow Street (the street that services the Glickman Library and the parking garage exit) and Deering Avenue will be one-way, heading toward Deering.

Consequently, you will not be able to turn from Deering Avenue or the Brighton Avenue extension (which runs past the former Alumni House) onto Bedford Street and drive toward Forest Avenue. This traffic will be detoured to Falmouth Street.

The parking garage will remain open. Two-way traffic on Bedford Street will continue between Forest Avenue and Winslow Street. There also will be times when traffic exiting Winslow Street from the Glickman Library or the garage will be forced to turn left onto Bedford Street.

We apologize for this inconvenience, and will do all we can to complete this work as quickly as possible.

Please contact USM Facilities Management at 228-8124 if you have any questions or concerns.
