News Releases"Between a Rock and a Hard Place" April 4, 2007 The preparation of college students and workforce development will be among issues raised at the symposium "Between a Rock and a Hard Place: The Value of a USM Education in the Global Economy." The event, which is free and open to the public, will be held from 5-7 p.m., this Friday, April 6, in Rooms 214-215 of the USM Abromson Community Education Center, Portland. Call 780-4717. Lynne Miller, a USM professor of educational leadership, will share her research about the preparation and expectations of this generation of college students, drawing on national and local research as well as data about USM students. Charles Colgan, USM professor of public policy and management, will present his data on the workforce needs of the state and the role of higher education in economic development. Colgan and Miller are the current holders USM's Walter E. Russell Chair in Philosophy and Education. Each holder receives an honorarium and presents public lectures on issues of importance in education and/or philosophy. |
