News ReleasesVisiting Professor from Sweden Compares Childcare in U.S. and Scandinavia January 30, 2007 Visiting Professor Anita Nyberg, an internationally recognized expert in family and work policies from Stockholm, Sweden, will speak on "Comparing Childcare and Parental Leave Policies in Scandinavia and the United States," at the University of Southern Maine at 7 - 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, February 7, in the 7th Floor University Events Room, Glickman Family Library, Portland. The talk will focus on her research comparing the effects of feminist activism on the economic situations of women in Scandinavia and the U.S. Nyberg is a professor of gender perspectives on work and the economy at the National Institute for Working Life in Stockholm, Sweden. She is in the U.S. on a grant from the American Scandinavian Foundation and is teaching "Gender Perspectives on Welfare State Policies: Comparing the U.S. and Scandinavia," this spring for USM's Department of Women's Studies.
