News ReleasesUSM’s Second Annual Knap-In A Fun Family Event in Gorham March 30, 2007 On Saturday, April 14, the University of Southern Maine’s Geography-Anthropology Student Association is hosting their second annual Knap-In, a daylong event honoring the art of crafting tools from stone. This family friendly event will run from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. at Bailey Hall on USM’s Gorham Campus. Activities will include demonstrations of flint knapping techniques and opportunities to try out both flint knapping and spear throwing. Booths will feature Maine artisans and archaeological information. Flint knapping is the ancient practice of creating stone tools. This increasingly popular art form has spawned national publications, websites, and gatherings called Knap-Ins. Last year’s USM knap-in was the first held in Maine. This event is free and open to the public with a recommended donation to the Geography-Anthropology Student Association to help defray costs. For more information, visit http://www.usm.maine.edu/gany or call 780-5321. |
