Bank of America Foundation Supports USM Libraries
June 18 , 2007
The Bank of America Foundation has awarded $15,000 to the University of Southern Maine Libraries. The Bank of America Foundation gift will be used for library acquisitions - monographs and serials.
Each campus of USM - Portland, Gorham, and Lewiston-Auburn - has its own library, each with its own history and special features. The Albert Brenner Glickman Family Library in Portland is home to the Osher Map Library and Smith Center for Cartographic Education, and the Jean Byers Sampson Center for Diversity in Maine. The Gorham campus Library is housed in Bailey Hall, named for Dr. Francis L. Bailey, president of Gorham State Teacher's College from 1940 to 1960. The Lewiston-Auburn College Library, located within the main facility of the Lewiston-Auburn campus, is home to the Franco-American Collection, an archive of documents, photographs and artifacts celebrating the generations of Franco-Americans who have settled in Maine.
"Libraries play a vitally important role in the life of the University," said President Richard L. Pattenaude, "so we are especially appreciative of the Bank of America Foundation's gift."
