USM Students To Spend Spring Break Building Houses

Some 18 USM students will be spending spring break in Florida but instead of soaking up rays on the beach, they will be building houses through Habitat for Humanity’s Collegiate Challenge Program.

The students will be leaving Portland on Saturday, March 24, for West Melbourne, Florida where they will spend the week working for Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County. The USM group is scheduled to return on Saturday, March 31.

Collegiate Challenge, which is coordinated through Habitat for Humanity International in Americus, Georgia, is sponsoring more than 175 work sites during spring break. An estimated 9,000 students from 400 colleges and universities will participate.

The USM students are raising money to support the trip and the work of Habitat for Humanity of Brevard County. For more information, call Andrea Thompson McCall, USM associate director for student activities and community service, at 228-8284.
