University of Southern Maine Holds Student Recognition
Day
The following USM students received awards at the annual 2001 Recognition
Day ceremonies this spring. Recipients are listed below in alphabetical
order by hometown.
Auburn:
Kim Chamberland, a student at the Lewiston-Auburn College of the University
of Southern Maine, was the recipient of the Helen L. Greenwood Scholarship,
the Anthony Pearson Scholarship, and the Mechanics Savings Bank Scholarship.
She is a teaching assistant in the medical microbiology and natural science
topics labs. She is married to Gary R. Chamberland.
Sydney Danforth, an arts and humanities major, received the Edna Frances
Dickey Scholarship. She is a peer coordinator at Lewiston-Auburn College.
Her mother, Eva Danforth, resides in Auburn.
Jane E. Erickson, a Lewiston-Auburn College student, was the recipient
of a Mechanics Savings Bank Scholarship. She is working toward a masters
of occupational therapy.
Madeleine Kay Seger, a graduate student majoring in occupational therapy,
won the Androscoggin Bank Scholarship. Her mother, Monique Levasseur,
is from New Gloucester.
Christine A. Mockler, a nursing major, received the Sisters of Charity
Scholarship, and a Lewiston-Auburn College Scholarship. Mockler is a 1983
graduate of Lisbon High School and a 1985 graduate of Mid State College.
Her parents, Normand and Pamela Carrier, live in Sabattus.
Richard P. Tourangeau Jr. received the USM Alumni Association Scholarship,
the Wensel Moberg Award, a Mechanics Savings Bank Scholarship, and the
Dr. Harlan Philippi Memorial Scholarship. Tourangeau is majoring in applied
chemistry, biological sciences, and natural and applied sciences. His
parents are Pamylah J. Brown of Auburn and Richard P. Tourangeau Sr.,
of Scarborough.
Bangor:
Mary R. Cameron, a freshman, was awarded the John R. and Patricia H. DiMatteo
Scholarship. Cameron is a member of the Russell Scholars program at USM.
She is a 2000 graduate of Bangor High School, and her parents are Gary
Cameron of Caribou and Sharon Ballard of Bangor.
Belfast:
Bernadette Loree Williams, a sophomore majoring in psychology, was awarded
the Mabel Stuart Daveis Scholarship. She is a member of the Psi Chi and
Golden Key National Honor Societies. Williams is a residential assistant
for the Russell Scholars Honors program. Her parents are Jen and Ken Williams
of Belfast.
Biddeford:
Katie Marie Ouellette, a 1992 graduate of Biddeford High School, was
awarded the Department of Business Administration Certificate of Excellence
in Finance. She is the daughter of Nelson and Lorraine Ouellette.
Cape Elizabeth:
Ryan P. Jackson, a senior majoring in business administration, was awarded
a Department of Business Administration Certificate of Excellence in Marketing.
Jackson plans to enroll in USMs MBA program. His parents are Theresa
and Jerre Jackson of Cape Elizabeth.
Chebeague Island:
Nina Marie Brown, a social and behavioral science major, received
a Service Learning Award for grant writing at the Y.W.C.A. Brown is a
graduate of Greely High School. Browns mother, Mary Gomez, and daughter,
Sarah Brown, reside on Chebeague Island.
Falmouth:
Carolyn Gillis, was awarded the Mary Purkis and Horton P. Gilman Scholarship.
She is married to Kevin Gillis.
Hartford:
Arlene B. Nason, a student at USMs Lewiston-Auburn College, was
awarded The Class of 53 Scholarship Fund, given to students pursuing
a minor in the College of Education and Human Development; a Lewiston-Auburn
College Scholarship; a Dr. Harlan Philippi Memorial Scholarship and the
Dr. Frances Bailey Scholarship. She is a member of the Golden Key National
Honor Society. She is the wife of Morrill C. Nason Jr..
Lewiston:
Kathy S. Becvar, a student at Lewiston-Auburn College and a 1974 graduate
of Lewiston High School, was awarded a USM Service Learning Award. She
is the wife of Raymond Becvar and the daughter of William and Dorothy
Gagne of Lewiston.
Kellie Anna Pelletier,a student at Lewiston-Auburn College, was awarded
a USM Chapter of the Associated Faculties of the University of Maine System
Scholarship and the Edna Frances Dickey Scholarship. She resides in Lewiston
with her husband, Joseph Dobbins, and children Alyson and Cassandra.
North Yarmouth:
Katie Corbett, a junior majoring in psychology, was awarded the Nora and
Grace Nason Scholarship and a USM Chapter of the Associated Faculties
of the University of Maine System Scholarship. She is a member of Psi
Chi Honor Society, a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society,
and a research assistant in the psychology department. Corbetts
parents are Gordon and Ruth Corbett of North Yarmouth.
Rumford:
Pauline M. Bailey was awarded the Lewiston-Auburn College Scholarship
and the Sun Journal SUNDAY Award. She is a 1972 graduate of Rumford High
School. Her mother, Thelma Judkins, lives in Peru, Maine.
Saco:
Jeanette M. Burns received the Portland Pipeline Corporation Scholarship.
As a student, Burns has served as a representative on the Student Senate,
has been a note taker for a handicapped student, and has served as a math
tutor. Burns parents are Kathleen Boucher and Louis A. Burns of
Kennebunk.
South Portland:
Jeremy Federman, a linguistics major, won a USM Presidential Scholarship,
the Anthem Blue Cross/Blue Shield Scholarship for Academic Excellence,
and the Bertha F. Loomis 37 & Charles H. Loomis 39 Scholarship.
He is the son of Donald and Stephanie Federman who of Portland.
Terri L. Wright was awarded a Business Administration Certificate
of Excellence. Wright, who graduated this May, is married to Mark Wright.
Her parents, Richard and Cynthia Allen, reside in Kenduskeag.
Linda Siglock, a business administration major residing in South Portland,
received the Nora and Grace Nason Award and the George D. Woodward Accounting
Scholarship from the School of Business. Siglock is a graduate of Los
Alamos High School in New Mexico. Siglocks parents are Ann and Ralph
Partridge of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
Windham:
Chris Gower, a freshman, was awarded the Jessica G. Wise Memorial Scholarship
which was presented by the Center for Grieving Children. Gower, a graduate
of Scarborough High School, is the son of Michael Gower of Windham.
Colchester, Conn.:
Patrick A. Madden, a senior business administration major, received
a Department of Business Administration Certificate of Achievement in
the area of operations analysis. Madden is a 1997 graduate of Bacon Academy.
His parents are Joyce and Patrick Madden of Colchester.
Bromont, Québec:
Alex Dandenault, a graduate of Louis-Riel High School in Canada, was
the recipient of the Portland Junior College Scholarship. At USM he coached
the mens and womens rugby teams, and assisted in running hockey
clinics for children. He is the son of Jean and François Dandenault.
Los Alamos, New Mexico:
Linda Siglock, a business administration major, received the Nora and
Grace Nason Award and the George D. Woodward Accounting Scholarship from
the School of Business. Siglock, a graduate of Los Alamos High School
in New Mexico, currently resides in South Portland, Maine. Siglocks
parents are Ann and Ralph Partridge of Los Alamos, New Mexico.
