LeMieux Group joins USM’s Business Institute

Shep Lee, the chairman of the advisory board of the University of Southern Maine’s Institute for Family-Owned Business, has announced that the LeMieux Group at Legg Mason of Portland, has joined as a sponsor. The firm becomes the fifth, ongoing corporate sponsor of the Institute, joining Peoples Bank, Verrill and Dana, Inplan Group / MassMutual, and Runyon Kersteen Oullette.

The Institute is an association of business-owning families, whose mission is to help these family enterprises to thrive, and includes some of Maine’s oldest and most well- known firms. The team of sponsors for the Institute comprises a group familiar with trusts, estate planning, insurance, investment counseling, and asset and portfolio management.

John LeMieux, of the LeMieux Group at Legg Mason, believes that his firm will complement the objectives of the Institute. “One of the major concerns in every family business at some point is the passing over of the company to the children of the present operators. That produces a number of delicate issues that many family members would rather put off, which, unfortunately, is the last thing that any caring parent should do. ”

Lee agrees, “My family’s future is a whole lot more snug, because we took their advice.”
