Two Lectures on Greece

Two lectures on modern Greece will be presented by Professor Theano Terkenli of the Department of Geography of the University of the Aegean, Lesvos, Greece. The first, entitled "Tourism and the Cultural Landscape in Greece" will take place at 4:10 p.m., Monday, March 5, in Room 205, Payson Smith Hall on USM’s, Portland campus. The second talk is entitled "Geography of Greece" and will be offered at 9:30 a.m. on Tuesday, March 6, in Room 109, Bailey Hall on the Gorham campus of USM. Professor Terkenli's visit is sponsored by USM's Departments of Geosciences, Geography/Anthropology and the Women's Studies Program.

Professor Terkenli received a B.A. in forestry, from Aristotle University of Thessaloniki, Greece; an M.Sc. in landscape architecture, from the University of Wisconsin—Madison; and a Ph.D. in geography, from the University of Minnesota—Twin Cities. She then returned to Greece to take up her position at the University of the Aegean. Her areas of interest include: cultural geography; ethnic, social, and cultural interaction among social sub-groups in urban environments; development, change and cultural survival; and Greece and Greek cultural identity.
