Education Reform Leader Goodlad in So. Portland
Education reform leader John Goodlad will be the keynote
speaker at the annual meeting of The National Network for Educational
Renewal, scheduled for this Thursday through Saturday, September 21-23,
at the Sheraton Hotel, South Portland. It is the first time that the network,
a coalition that has promoted collaboration between public schools and
teacher education colleges to advance education reform, will hold its
meeting in the eastern U.S. The Southern Maine Partnership, a collaborative
reform effort based at USMs College of Education and Human Development,
is hosting the event.
Goodlads schedule has changed since we first informed you
of this event. He now will be speaking to superintendents, teachers and
other members of the educational community from 3 to 4 p.m., Friday, September
22, and from 1 to 2 p.m. on Saturday, September 23.
Other highlights include an address by David Imig, president of the American
Association of Colleges for Teacher Education, at 7 p.m., on Thursday,
September 21; and a session on the Carnegie Leadership Teams for Renewal
Project, led by Wilma Smith, senior associate at the Institute of Educational
Leadership, from 2:15 to 3:30 p.m., Saturday.
Goodlad has been a leader in educational reform for the past 15 years,
and was a founder of the Center for Educational Renewal, located at the
University of Washington. The center is based on the assumption that better
schools require teachers with better educations.
