Multicultural Conference at USM

“Racism in the classroom” and “maintaining identity in white institutions” are two of the topics to be discussed during the USM conference “People of Color, Voices of Unity.” The conference, to be held on Friday, November 10th and Saturday, November 11th in the Woodbury Campus Center, will focus on race and ethnicity in higher education in Maine.

The event, sponsored by the office of Equal Opportunity and Multicultural Affairs, will consist of various workshops to celebrate the identity of students of color living in Maine. The conference will also address the cultivation of community and leadership. Speakers include Wayne Newell from the Passamaquoddy Indian Township and Grace Valenzuela, assistant to the superintendent for multicultural affairs for the Portland School District.

The two day conference fee is $25. Limited scholarships are available.
