Women on the Appalachian Trail

Two women who have hiked the Appalachian Trail will share their experiences and adventures as women hikers on the trail in a slide show and discussion at the University of Southern Maine at 7 p.m. on Thursday, March 15 in Luther Bonney Auditorium on USM’s Portland campus.

“Women and Long Distance Hiking: Adventures on the Appalachian Trail" is an event in USM’s observance of Women’s History Month, “Remaking the World: Women and the Environment.” Casey Heard, who through-hiked the Appalachian Trail in 1997 and JoAnne Diller of Bridgton, who is a section-hiker on the Appalachian Trail, are the speakers.

The Appalachian Trail is a more than 2,000-mile-long trail spanning from Georgia
to Maine. The slide show will feature photographs of the Appalachian Trai and an opportunity to ask questions and get advice about hiking and women's experiences on the AT.

For more information, call Casey Heard at 874-7653. Or call USM’s Media Relations Office at the numbers at the top of this release.
