Legislative Relations

The Office of Public Affairs works with the President's Office to provide support to USM and the University of Maine System's legislative strategies. Our legislative communications are targeted at members of the state and congressional delegations.

Responsibilities in this area include:

• Coordinating campus visits by legislators and/or members of their staff.

• Providing information to various groups that mount legislative advocacy efforts on behalf of USM.
• Instituting special campus-based meetings that offer legislators an opportunity to gain firsthand knowledge of USM programs and services.
• Coordinating mailings to legislative delegations and individual legislators to keep them informed of various USM initiatives.
• Identifying those USM events that might be of interest to legislators and extending invitations.
