CHEN GOW HWEI, assistant professor of art, spoke on
"A Voice of Cultural Impact: From East to West," at the Chinese
New Year Fair, January 29, at Catherine McAuley High School,
Portland. At the same fair, LU HSIN-YI, assistant professor
of social and behavioral sciences, spoke on "Changing Tradition
in Taiwan: Urban Landscape Changes and Reinvention of Cultural
Tradition," and CRAIG DIETRICH, professor emeritus
of history, spoke on "Islam in China."
ROSEMARY J. CLEARY, assistant professor of social
and behavioral sciences, Lewiston-Auburn College, and EVE
ALLEGRA RAIMON, associate professor of arts and humanities,
Lewiston-Auburn College, presented their talk, "The Visionary
and the Volatile: The Promise and Perils of a Values-Based,
Socially Responsible General Education Curriculum," to the
annual meeting of the American Association of Colleges and
Universities in San Francisco on January 28, 2005.
ELIZABETH ELLIOTT, pre-nursing advising coordinator
and instructor of nursing, NOREEN BYRNE VINCENT, lecturer
of nursing, PHYLLIS F. HEALY, associate professor of
nursing, JUDITH SPROSS, associate professor of nursing, and
MARIANNE W. RODGERS, chair and associate professor of
nursing, attended the American Association of Colleges of
Nursing, Clinical Nurse Leader Regional Meeting in Washington
D.C., on January 27-28, 2005.
MICHAEL S. HAMILTON, associate professor of political
science, is the author of "Mining Environmental Policy: Comparing
Indonesia and the United States" which will be published this
summer by Ashgate Publishing, Ltd. in the United Kingdom,
United States, Singapore and Australia.
JANE KIRSCHLING, dean, College of Nursing and Health
Professions, attended an American Association of Colleges
of Nursing Board of Directors' Meeting in Coronado, Calif.,
on January 17-19, and the American Association of Colleges
of Nursing, Clinical Nurse Leader Regional Meeting in Washington
D.C., on January 27-28.
MARJORIE THOMAS LAWSON, associate professor of nursing,
attended the American Association of Colleges of Nursing Conference
on Pathways to Doctoral Education in Coronado, Calif., on
January 18-23, 2005.
VICTOR LIBERI, lecturer of sports medicine, traveled
to the United States Olympic Training Center in Marquette,
Mich., for one week to work as an athletic trainer with the
teams.
MINOR ROOTES, professor of theatre, has a lead role
in an independent feature film, "Sundowning," which also stars
EMMANUELLE CHAULET and is directed by James Cole, the
son RON COLE, professor emeritus of music. The film
has been accepted by the 2005 Cinequest Film Festival in San
Jose, Calif., at which it was shown on March 4 and 6. The

BRIAN TOY, director and associate professor of sports
medicine, JAY L. MYERS, instructor of sports medicine, VICTOR
LIBERI and TINA CLAIBORNE, assistant professor
of sports medicine, presented posters on "Athletic Training
Clinical Proficiencies Can be Evaluated in the Traditional
Athletic Training Setting Following Naturally Occurring Events"
and "Implementing an Undergraduate Athletic Training Education
Program for the Non-Traditional Aged Student" at the bi-annual
National Athletic Trainers Association EducatorŐs Conference
in Montgomery, Tx., in January 2005.
