Reeves Jazzes Up Faculty Concert

Scott Reeves, director of jazz studies at USM, is bringing a great ensemble of guest artists from the New York and Boston jazz scene for the next faculty concert. The program will feature many of Reeves' original compositions from his newest CD, "You Are What You Think."

The concert, sponsored by Key Bank, takes place at 8 p.m. Friday, October 29, in Corthell Concert Hall on the USM Gorham campus. Admission is $9 for the general public; $7 for seniors; and $5 for students. Call the Music Box Office at 780-5555 for reservations and information.

Reeves will lead the group and will play trombone, alto flugelhorn, alto valve trombone, and the Australian aboriginal instrument, the didgeridoo. He will be joined by Bill Mobley on trumpet and flugelhorn, James Williams on piano, John Lockwood on bass, and Bob Gullotti on drums. On several numbers, Janet Reeves will provide vocals, and Gary Pack adds his trumpet.

In addition to Reeves' compositions, the ensemble will also perform works by James Williams, Kurt Weill and Wayne Shorter.

A Chicago native, Reeves has taught jazz for the past 21 years, including 12 at USM. He is currently on leave to take an active part in the musical life of New York and teach at The City College of New York.
