Summer Program for students grades 3-8

Posted April 4, 2013

Problem solving, puzzles, LEGO robotics and modular origami are all part of the MMSETS (Maine Mathematics Science and Engineering Talent Search) summer program for students grades 3-8.   The summer program will be held at USM in Portland during the week of June 24th, the week of July 8th, and the week of July 22nd.

Through participating in this program, students receive a foundation for success in science, technology, engineering and mathematics careers.

The projects and problems covered change from year to year and even within the weeks of the program.  This summer, the special topic is fractals: in geometry and problem solving, as well as modular origami models of fractals and the fractal antennas of mobile devices.

The quality of the program is highlighted by the fact that nine students from the American Mathematics Competition 2012 Honors Lists are students who participated in our programs several times.
