Secondary Mathematics Education: A Pathway to Teacher Certification

USM’s Secondary Mathematics Education program is for undergraduate students, who want to become certified to teach mathematics in grades 7-12 in Maine.

The program is a 4 ½ year undergraduate pathway to teacher certification and a bachelor’s degree in mathematics.  After completing the program and teaching for one year, graduates complete an additional 13-credit hours and earn a Master of Science in Teaching and Learning (MTL).

USM students interested in the Secondary Mathematics Education program should contact the program coordinator in their first year at USM.
