1970 1971 1972 1973 1974 1975 1976 1977 1978 1979 1970 Joyce Ingham Freeman Richard and Ann Hodgkins Rice plan to retire from teaching
in one more year. Richard is teaching fifth grade and Ann teaches third.
Two of their grandchildren go to the school where they teach, and they
enjoy seeing them everyday. Unfortunately for the fourth-grader,
she is across the hall from Grumpy. 1971 Jeanne Kimball Strout 1972 Elizabeth Hathaway Barrell became a great-grandparent for the
first time when Kacey Wellman was born on March 17, 2001 in Winterport.
Linda Lee Carter continues to live in Florida where she enjoys
the nice weather. She has been busy crocheting afghan squares for the
Red Crosss Warming Up America Project. She has completed four
afghans to date. Evelyn Carberry Potter and her husband, Charlie,
took a trip to France and Switzerland in May 2001. They saw the sights
of Paris and took a barge trip on the canals in Burgundy. They also
spent several days in Interlaken, Lugano, and Lucerne. 1973Dennis Ray McDonalds oldest son graduated from USM in 2001 with an environmental science major and a minor in biology. Dennis also has a son that is a senior at Maine Maritime Academy, studying systems engineering. Another son is a junior at Framingham State College, majoring in communications, and his youngest child, his daughter, is majoring in business management at Husson College. 1974Phillip R. Cote Jr. has changed careers after 22 years in the medical information systems business. He is now in the handy man business. He founded Abodekare as a corporation in April of 1999. Business is good, and I no longer have to travel all over the country. 1975 Martha Smist Rice Helen A. Incze and her husband, Lewis, celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at a party hosted by their sons, daughters-in-law, and grandchildren. Linda Van Norde works as a nurse in infusion therapy. She is married with three children, who range in age from 17 to 24. Her youngest daughter hopes to attend USM in the fall. 1976 Patricia McGovern Grossman Cheryl Goddard Hale accepted a position at Gettysburg Hospital
in November, 2001, as director of performance improvement, risk management,
and patient safety. She and her husband, Roberts 79 son,
Lucas, graduated with a B.S.E.E. from Virginia Tech in May, 2001, and
is employed as an electrical engineer with Luna, Inc. in Blacksburg,
Va. Ginny Morin Weeks works in the PACU at Maine Medical Center.
Her oldest child, Teresa, graduated with a masters in nursing
from USM in May 2001. Her son graduated from UNH in 1999 and works for
Artex in Massachusetts. Her daughter, Valerie, graduated from Holy Cross
in 2000, was married on Sept. 29, 2001, and lives in Reading, England. 1977Evangeline Tuttle Lee has attended Senior College, now the Osher
Lifelong Learning Institute, at USM since it started. I really
enjoyed all courses I have taken. David E. Lewis is working
in the Bahamas at the U.S. Navy Test Facility. He obtained his U.S.C.G.
100 Ton Masters License. 1978Deborah Higgins is a proud Husky working at the University of
Maine, Farmington. She has completed her 20th year as a womens
lacrosse official. Jean D. Irish married Robert G. Fuller on
Sept. 9, 2001. Their honeymoon, delayed by events of September 11, was
spent in China, where they toured the country for two weeks in November.
Frederick W. Jackson retired from the corporate world thanks
to a wonderful gift in the form of an early retirement from UNUMProvident.
He and his wife have built their dream home in Florida and will be moving
there within the next year. 1979 Charles B. Drake Lori Pike has been a teacher in MSAD 55 for 22 years. After 22 years, I still love this occupation. She and her husband, Rodney Gilpatrick, live in Cornish with their four children. We all help on my familys dairy farm and enjoy life here in the country. Charlie Shuman, president of Charlies Motor Mall and Charlies Toyota, is running what is considered the largest new car dealer group in the state with annual sales estimated at $130 million from his seven dealerships. The Kennebec Valley Chamber of Commerce named him Business Person of the Year in December. Winnifred F. York is the president of MEEI Alumnae (nursing). She is an active AARP volunteer. She is a member of AUGSDC on the Welfare Committee to place German shepherds in new homes. Winnifred also spends every weekend entertaining her only grandchild. |
