Olive Draper Drew wrote last year that she was active in running and has won races in several states, including the Senior Olympics in Orlando in the summer of 1999 and several races since. These are not short races as some are in the 5K class. Congratulations! In August 2001, Frances Merrill Libby traveled on a Royal Caribbean Alaskan cruise to Anchorage, Seward, and the inland passage to Vancouver, B.C., with stops at Juneau, Sitka, Skagway, and Ketchikan. I have been on a cruise along that route also, and agree with her that the scenery is fantastic. It is an unforgettable experience. Frances writes that she has successfully recovered from a hip replacement operation.

I suppose it would be proper for to update you on your class agent, that’s me, Almery R. Hamblen. My wife Kay and I now fly when we travel on long trips between Florida and Maine, and to Seattle and return. I had two knee joint replacements during one operation in March 1988, and during this past year one of the knees had to be reopened and some parts replaced. All that is now over and things are back to normal. We do plan to travel to Washington state this summer, and hopefully by rail if the connection between Portland and Boston is complete.

For classmates with access to computers and e-mail, my e-mail address is alkay@earthlink.net. I do not have a computer in Maine, so please use the e-mail address only between the middle of October and the middle of June.

Margaret Johnson Hill was planning to go to Florida and attended the Florida Chapter Reunion in February. Elinor Haley Sanborn still lives alone in her home on Deerwander Road in Hollis. She was married for 54 years before she lost her husband in 1994. She started teaching in the one-room school in Hollis, taking time off to care for her children. She returned to MSAD 6 elementary school, from which she retired in 1978. After 23 years of retirement she is volunteering in the same school. Elinor has four grandchildren, two of whom live nearby, and three great-grandchildren. Her granddaughter, Jennifer Sanborn Pinkham, teaches in the Hollis school. She also has a daughter-in-law and a great-granddaughter in kindergarten at the same school. In her spare time, Elinor knits hats, mittens, and sweaters that she gives to her friends and charity organizations.
