Homecoming 2004
Author Signs Books to Benefit Scholarship—Acclaimed author Lois Lowry ’73 signed copies of her latest book, Messenger, for her many fans who attended a brunch and book signing in June in the University Events Room in the USM Glickman Family Library. Proceeds went to the USM Alumni Association endowed scholarship.

Alumni Board Welcomes USM Students
Members of the USM Alumni Association Board of Directors participated in the annual Husky Festival to welcome new students back to campus in September. The Association sponsored a booth and handed out more than 1,000 bottles of “alumni smart water” to students, faculty, and staff.

Gorham Grads Enjoy Reunion
Alumni from USM predecessor schools, Gorham Normal School, and Gorham State Teachers College, held a reunion in June on the Gorham campus. The day began with a breakfast hosted by USM President Richard Pattenaude. The 50-year reunion class from Gorham State Teachers College held a dedication ceremony in front of Corthell Hall to present their reunion gift of a U.S. and Maine flag memorial site, honoring all USM alumni, students, and faculty and staff who have served in the armed forces. Alumni were drawn to the site by the soulful sounds of bagpiper Susan Mack. At the luncheon, guest speaker James Curry, associate dean of USM's College of Education and Human Development, presented an overview of how teacher training has evolved .
