She lives in an apartment attached to one son’s home in Morrill, and she remains involved in several town, school, church, and social activities. She no longer drives, but many of her 37 descendants stand ready to assist her. They recently drove her to Boston to watch a great-grandson graduate summa cum laude from Northeastern University. She is eager to hear from classmates. Write her at 18 Mill Stream Lane, Morrill, ME 04952.
Frances Merrill Libby writes in her Christmas letter that she broke her right wrist in May 2007, but with walkers, a cane, patience, and physical therapy, she kept going and planted her garden beds and raised fresh vegetables. She’s also still active in church programs.
Olive Draper Drew writes about her drive from Hutchinson, Kan., to Kansas City during a blizzard. The next day the big highway was closed and she missed the mini-marathon she’d hoped to run. She’d won her age-group the last 10 times she’d run the race. Olive also reports that Marion Allen Hussey is no longer in Canada, presumably with her daughter, but has returned to Saco. Amy Lowe wrote to say her mother, Bernice Nutt Crockett, has been living in the Knox Center for Long Term Care in Rockland, where she is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease. Almery also writes that it was nice to hear from Adena Smith, and “many thanks to those who sent information to me.”
Gladys Wagner Hall ’38 has moved into an assisted living facility in Essex Junction, Vermont, near the Jericho home of her son, Robert. Correction: The spring/summer 2006 issue noted incorrectly Gladys Wagner Hall’s husband died in 2003. Her son, David, died of cancer in 2003.
Class agent Elizabeth Sundgren Winslow ’46 reports being in contact with a number of classmates in the winter of 2007. Barbara Noyes Leighton ’45 and her husband spent the winter in Maine for the first time in 25 years. Her son lives in Limestone. She couldn’t wait for spring and the chance to work on her extensive flower garden. Barbara asked about Ruth Lindsay Burnell ’45, who is still living in Ocean Park. Ruth said over the phone that she went to a family wedding in Las Vegas and planned to go to her son’s camp in Lincoln in the summer. Edith Meserve Rice, Maisie Magraw Searles ’45, and Betty Wiley Chapman visited Charlotte Watson Mason at her new assisted living residence in Yarmouth. Maisie and her husband still go to Marathon in the Florida Keys in January. Elizabeth writes: “Ruby Anderson Smith still lives in Bath, near my sons' in-law. She has been to Hollis to see her cousin, Margaret Anderson Pease. Ruth Harmon Beals is enjoying good health in Springvale, and is still able to do a lovely counted cross stitch.” Caroline Cunningham Allen returned home from the hospital and she joined Elizabeth for a delightful Sunday afternoon lunch and showing of the movie, The Queen. Elizabeth reports to be in good health and went to the graduation of her grandson, Bryan, from the Great Lakes Naval Service Training Command. Brian is now in Groton, Conn., studying computer electronics in the submarine service. “I would love to hear from more of you and would consider sending a personal newsletter,” she writes.
