Florida Chapter Meets

On a beautiful early spring day in February, the USM Florida Alumni Chapter held its 34th gathering in Sarasota, Florida. USM Interim President Joe Wood called in and gave a comprehensive overview of life at USM—from successful fundraising efforts to presidential search committee updates, to new happenings on campus. He followed his remarks with a question and answer period.

Doug Whitney, son of Janet Gullifer Whitney ’56 and Will Whitney, principal architect at WBRC Architect Engineers, was recognized for sponsoring this year’s meeting; his generosity enabled all proceeds from the event to go to the scholarship fund. Emily Julian was the 2007-2008 scholarship recipient. Next year, two $1,000 scholarships will be given.

Catherine Cooper ’81, past president of the chapter, was presented with a gift to thank her for her service and dedication to the chapter.

Mark February 21, 2009 in your calendars for next year’s meeting!
