Literacy Education

Comprehensive Exam

The Master’s Program comprehensive examination is a take-home exam completed over one week’s time while enrolled in EDU 634 or EDU 635.

Of the six questions on the exam, students select three to answer. Questions ask students to synthesize their understanding of theory, research, and practice in six core areas

  1. Reading development
  2. Writing process
  3. Educational and literacy research
  4. Linguistic and cultural diversit
  5. Comprehension instruction
  6. Literacy assessment

A rubric (pdf) is used to evaluate each of the three responses.

The average score earned across the three responses will indicate whether a student has exceeded or met the standards.
