Wayne Cowart, Ph.D.

Position: Professor of Linguistics (tenured),University of Southern Maine, since 1989. Chair of the Linguistics Department at USM.

Education: Ph.D. in Linguistics from the City University of New York in 1983.

Previous Experience: Taught at Ohio State University as a member of the Linguistics Department and the Neuroscience Program, 1983 - 89.

Research Interests: The psychology and biology of language, and the philosophy of mind.

Publications:

  • Book: Experimental Syntax: Applying objective methods to sentence judgments (Sage, 1997).
  • Articles: in Linguistic Inquiry, Language, Perceptual and Motor Skills, Memory and Cognition, Cognition, The Journal of Psycholinguistic Research, and The Journal of Verbal Learning and Verbal Behavior, among others.Contributed to anthologies published by the MIT Press and other academic publishers.

Grant support: National Science Foundation, National Institutes of Health.

Professional Service: Reviewer for the National Science Foundation and various linguistics and psychology journals.
