Streaming Videos are now available

Posted October 26, 2012

Streaming Videos are now available to USM thanks to the recent additions of two large collections of educational videos and documentaries.  USM students and faculty can instantly access thousands of full-length videos and over 100,000 video clips 24/7.

Academic Video Online (AVO), a streaming video subscription service, offers approximately 13,000 video titles in a wide range of disciplines and from dozens of producers and distributors. Titles include documentaries, interviews, performances, news programs and news reels, field recordings, commercials, and raw footage. Many entries also include transcripts and videos are copyright cleared for educational use.  Records for the individual videos included in AVO have been added and linked in URSUS.   See the collection at:

A second collection, Films on Demand: Master Academic Collection also offers streaming access to 8,900 full length videos and 104,000 video clips from several well known educational video distributors such as Films for the Humanities and Sciences, BBC, PBS, the Open University and many others.  About 600 new titles are added every year.  Materials can be searched by discipline or title, include transcripts, are copyright cleared for USM faculty and student use, and the URL’s are easy to cut and paste into presentations or Blackboard.  Records for individual titles will soon be added to URSUS.
