Faculty Biographies

Peter J Aicher, Professor of Classics, specializes in ancient epic and Roman topography. He is author of numerous articles in both areas, as well as the author of Rome Alive: A Source-guide to the Ancient City (2 volumes, Bolchazy-Carducci Publishers 2004) and Guide to the Aqueducts of Ancient Rome (Bolchazy-Carducci 1995). Professor Aicher teaches “Epic Hero” (CLA 283), “Golden Age of Greece” (CLA 291) and “Homer’s Odyssey and Joyce’s Ulysses” (CLA 270), in addition to courses in Greek and Latin.

Jeannine Diddle Uzzi, Associate Professor of Classics, specializes in Roman social history and political ideology, the Roman visual arts, and the history of children and the family.  She is the author of Children in the Visual Arts of Imperial Rome (Cambridge 2005).  Professor Uzzi teaches "Tragic Hero" (CLA 284H), "Classical Mythology" (CLA 285I), and "Art, Architecture, and Archaeology of the Ancient World" (ARH/CLA 321) in addition to regular offerings in Greek and Latin language and literature.  She and Professor Aicher share a commitment to the USM Honors program, where they teach Honors 101, "Wisdom Stories from Antiquity."
