FLE 399: Language Classroom Experience

The objective of this course is to prepare prospective teachers to make sound decisions about the content, the approach, the goals and classroom activities of a foreign language course. To achieve this objective, students will study contemporary educational theories and methodologies that they can incorporate into instruction in order to have an effective classroom. They will learn to structure four-skills activities that are student-centered.  

The course will introduce students to assessment strategies that have Maine Learning Results at their core. Preparation for class and participation are essential.

 

REQUIRED TEXTS AND READINGS:

  • An introductory language text (student choice of language)


  • Robert J. Marzano, Classroom Management That Works:  Research-Based Strategies for Every Teacher


  • Penny Ur, Grammar Practice Activities:  A Practical Guide for Teachers


  • Supplementary reading materials provided by instructor
