Roxie
Black Ph.D., OTR/L; FAOTA
Professor; MOT Program Director
Roxie
has been the director of the MOT program since October 1997. She received
her undergraduate education in occupational therapy from Boston University,
a Master's degree in adult education from the University of Southern Maine
in 1989, and her PhD in Educational Studies from Lesley University in Cambridge,
MA. Roxie has been an OT educator since 1983. Her clinical experience
includes 25 years of practice in pediatrics, working with children from
infancy to young adulthood.
The
focus of Roxie's scholarship has been on transformational curricula for
health professions education with an examination of feminist, multicultural,
and critical pedagogical theories. She has presented at numerous national,
regional and local conferences. Roxie has published on issues of diversity
and is co-author of "Cultural Competency for Health Professionals"
(AOTA 2000) and 'Culture and Occupation: A Model of Empowerment in Occupational
Therapy" (AOTA 2007), both with Shirley Wells, MPH, OTR/L. Roxie
is the past President of the Maine Occupational Therapy Association.
Personally, Roxie has two adult children and two very active and crazy
felines. She loves to garden, read, travel, go to the movies and theater,
spend time with friends and family, and loll on the beach and sunbathe
(although there is never enough time for that in Maine). Her greatest joy
is as Nana to grandchildren Caleb, Emma, Micah and Aliza. Email

Lisa
Clark,
MS, OTR/L
Clinical Faculty
Lisa
earned bother her BS and MS degrees in Occupational Therapy from the University
of New Hampshire. Lisa has gained clinical experience in several
practice areas, primarily working with adults and the elderly in acute
rehabilitation, outpatient, home health care, hand therapy, and skilled
nursing facilities. She currently continues to practice in outpatient
services at Mid Coast Hospital in Brunswick, Maine. The opportunity to
combine teaching and occupational therapy practice is ideal for Lisa.
Teaching
with the MOT faculty is an exciting and continuous process of learning
as well as finding humor in work, she says. Learning should be rigorous,
but fun for everyone involved – students and faculty. Interfacing
in the community of learning at USM/L-A provides wonderful challenges and
experiences with staff and students. Lisa is a recipient of the Maine Occupational
Therapy Association ‘Leadership Award’, as well as the ‘Mentor Award’ in
2001 and again in 2005. She was honored with a USM
Faculty Senate award for excellence in Service. She has made professional
presentations in Maine, New England and at the national level. Teaching in
her areas of expertise,
Lisa
provides coursework in the areas of physical disabilities and
interruption of occupational participation, cognition and perception,
kinesiology and leadership. Her areas of scholarly interest include
issues
of occupational justice, and leadership. Her master’s thesis was
completed in the arena of reimbursement and evaluation in skilled nursing
facilities. Lisa loves being in Maine enjoying the outdoors with her
spouse and young son, dogs, bird and Llamas!
