The University of Southern Maine (USM) has completed a Master Plan for its Lewiston campus, USM/L-A. The Master Plan is a set of guiding principles from which USM will make decisions concerning the future development of the Lewiston campus both academically and physically. The USM/L-A Master Plan serves multiple purposes:

• it provides documentation for enrollment projections;
• it translates these projections into growth predictions for each of the academic and service programs on campus;
• it attempts to determine what facilities will be needed to house these programs; and, finally,
• it suggests where the facilities would be best located.

The USM/L-A Master Plan has been designed to allow the University of Southern Maine to continue to provide quality higher education in an environment that is inviting and conducive to enhancing all aspects of the learning experience, while reflecting the mission statement and core values of the campus and the academic unit, Lewiston-Auburn College.

The USM/L-A Master Plan is the result of months of data gathering, focus groups, and student, staff, faculty and community input. Harriman Associates of Auburn, Maine was selected to write the Plan and they worked in cooperation with the USM/L-A Building Committee to set priorities for new space and expanded campus requirements.

The USM/L-A Master Plan is a dynamic entity. As time passes it will continue to change to meet the emerging needs of USM and the USM/L-A community. It is hoped, however, to create something that reflects our mission and vision statements and anticipates our role in preparing students for a successful future. It is also hoped that the Master Plan reflects continued growth as an important part of the Lewiston-Auburn Community, and provides the basis on which effective decisions for the future may be made.
