USM/L-A student Amy Dulac of Greene, an SBS major, was a
key player in a recent effort to expand MaineCare coverage
for families. Governor Baldacci, pictured here with Amy,
lowered the guide lines from 150% to 200% of federal poverty
levels for individuals with children seeking MaineCare.
With
the expansion, Dirigo will be able to cover nearly 10,000
new parents while reducing bad debt and charity care
for
people who previously had no health coverage, the governor
said. Resulting savings of $10 million are "sufficient
to cover the expense of this expansion," Baldacci said.
