Master of Occupational Therapy Students
Present Original Research
Second year students in the Master of
Occupational Therapy (MOT) program at USMs Lewiston-Auburn
College demonstrated their advanced knowledge during the Student
Poster Presentations of Original Research. This annual event
was recently held at the College. The students have invested
a minimum of two semesters preparing, researching, and analyzing
topics related to occupational therapy practice and development.
The topics presented included: Occupational Performance Benefits
of Tai Chi Chuan (T.C.C.) in the Elderly Population; Improving
Parent-Infant Bonding in the N.I.C.U; Perceptions of Self
by Children with Down Syndrome; Chronic Non-Malignant Pain:
How do OTs Understand It?; Prevalence of Nonverbal Learning
Disabilities in Maine and Interventions Utilized by OTs;
and Providing an Efficient and Beneficial Driving Rehabilitation
Program for Individuals Post Brain Injury.
Dr. Roxie Black, Director of the MOT Program states that
the importance of engaging in and understanding research
has been identified and encouraged by the occupational therapy
profession as a means of advancing knowledge about this important
field. The MOT program at LAC shares this value, and emphasizes
its importance by requiring all students to develop and carry
out a unique and methodical research project.
The University of Southern Maines MOT Program is nationally
accredited and has been recognized for its state of the art
curriculum by professional and national organizations. The
MOT Program will be admitting its 8th class in the fall
2003. IT is the only post-baccalaureate entry-level masters
degree program in the state of Maine and boasts a 98% student
success rate on the National Certification Exam. Applications
for fall admission are being accepted. Please call 753-6523
