The University of Southern Maine's Lewiston-Auburn College
is sponsoring an information session and open house for the
Master of Occupational Therapy (MOT) program. This informal
event will be held at the College Monday, March 14, from
5:00 - 7:00 p.m. There will be opportunities to meet with
faculty and students, gain information about the program,
curriculum and admissions
requirements, and a questions and
answers forum.
The MOT program at USM/L-A is fully accredited by the Accreditation
Council for Occupational Therapy (ACOTE), of the American
Occupational Therapy Association (AOTA). It is an entry-level
graduate program that may be completed in two years on a
full-time basis, or three to four years part-time. ACOTE
granted reaccredidation to the program for a ten-year period
which is the longest time period for reaccredidation granted
by ACOTE, reserved only for those programs meeting their
highest standards. In addition, 95% of the graduates of this
program (over the last five years) have passed the National
Certification Exam, compared to a national average of 81%.
Applications
for admission to the MOT program are being accepted. Candidates
must have completed a bachelor's degree
(in any discipline) at a regionally accredited college or
university. Other admissions requirements, including program
prerequisites, will be explained in detail at the Open House.
For students who have not yet attended college, the MOT "Jump
Start" Program is available and will also be discussed.
The Jumpstart option enables students to complete their undergraduate
and MOT graduate education at USM/L-A in five years.
This informational session will be conducted by Roxie Black,
Ph.D., associate professor and director of the MOT program.
Anyone interested in learning more about and/or pursuing
a career in occupational therapy is encouraged to attend.
The session, free of charge and open to the public, will
be held in room 170 at USM's Lewiston-Auburn College, 51
Westminster Street in Lewiston. Light refreshments will be
served. Those who wish to attend, or obtain more information,
are asked to contact the program's administrative assistant,
Luisa Scott at 753-6523 or lscott@usm.maine.edu.
