L-A College Offers Communications Course
for RN’s
August 2003
USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC) is offering a course
this fall to help registered nurses develop better oral and
written communication skills and enhance their technology
skills.
“Professional Communication & Technology Utilization”
emphasizes a critical examination of how technology and communication
can enhance the understanding of the historical and professional
development of nursing. Students will explore history and
nursing theory using skills in written and oral communication
and will learn to present information effectively using a
variety of sources and appropriate techniques. Among the topics
covered include: library access to information and databases;
introduction to the APA reference manual; basic computer skills
such as email, list serves, word processing, the Internet,
and presentation methods and software.
This three-credit course (CON 308) will be held Wednesdays,
9:00 - 11:30 a.m., beginning September 3. Registration is
open through the start of the semester. This course, which
is open only to RN’s, is one of the first two required
courses in the RN to BS program offered through USM’s
College of Nursing and Health Professions. This program for
working nurses, offered in its entirety at LAC, is open to
nurses who completed either a diploma or associate degree
program in nursing. For more information, please call the
college at 753-6500 and ask to speak to an advisor.
