International Student Organization Formed
A new organization with a goal to facilitate multicultural
and international affairs
in the Lewiston-Auburn area has been initiated. The International
Student Organization
of Lewiston-Auburn (ISOLA) is comprised of students, faculty,
and staff from the
following four colleges: Bates College, Central Maine Technical
College, USMs
Lewiston-Auburn College, and UMA/Lewiston-Auburn. The group
also includes
members of the local community.
In an effort to promote diversity in higher learning, ISOLA
hopes to sponsor a
variety of programs such as seminars, social gatherings, courses,
and publications
that bring together different American immigrant experiences.
Some of the groups
more immediate goals include helping members find employment
opportunities,
promoting global studies, and encouraging high school seniors
to consider international
studies as a college major. ISOLA hopes to discuss with the
local colleges the
possibility of developing a joint degree in International
Studies.
Anyone interested in more information about ISOLA is encouraged
to call Dr. Barry Rodrigue at 753-6574 or email him at rodrigue@usm.maine.edu
