Industrial Organization & Management
Course at USM's L-A College
July 2004
An introductory course in industrial organization management
and supervision will be offered this fall at the University
of Southern Maine's Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC). The course
will include a study of the common elements of industry as
it relates to the areas of research and development; industrial
relations; production; financial control; marketing; and labor.
Management and supervisory theory and practices will be highlighted.
Emphasis will also be placed upon contemporary issues/problems/trends
associated with a global economy.
This course fulfills a requirement of the Industrial Technology
(INT) "Option II" program, which is designed to
prepare management-oriented technical professionals. This
option is designed for those individuals who already possess
significant training, education, or experience in a technical
and want to earn a bachelor's degree. Most of the students
in this program are associate degree graduates of one of the
technical programs from the Maine Community College system.
USM has formal transfer agreements in place that enable most
of these students to transfer course work directly into the
INT program.
This three credit course (ITP 280) is offered at the LAC
campus through the University's Department of Technology,
which is part of the College of Applied Science, Engineering,
and Technology. The class will meet Tuesdays, 4:00-6:30 p.m.,
and the first class will meet September 2. Harold Weisbein,
Jr., who has taught a number of technology courses at LAC,
will serve as the instructor. The course is open to qualified
students who are not enrolled in the INT program.
Registration for this and many other fall semester courses
at LAC is open through the first week of classes. Anyone interested
in taking the course or learning more about the Industrial
Technology "Option II" program is encouraged to
call 753-6500 and ask to speak to an advisor. USM's Department
of Technology is located on the Gorham campus and can be reached
at 780-5050.
