Dr. Christine Wanjiru Gichure to speak
at USM's L-A College
On Thursday, December 11, Dr. Christine Wanjiru Gichure,
Fulbright Scholar at the Jepson School of Leadership Studies,
University of Richmond, from Kenyatta University in Kenya
will present a talk on her work to promote the study of ethics
and leadership in business in Africa. The lecture and discussion
will be held at 7 p.m. in Room 170 of USM, Lewiston-Auburn
campus and is sponsored by USM/L-A's Leadership studies program
with the assistance of the World Affairs Council of Maine
and ISOLA (International Student Organization of L-A). The
talk is open to the public and is free of charge.
Dr. Gichure's doctoral work on applied ethics was completed
at the University of Navarre in Spain. For two years, she
served as the representative of the Vatican See Observer at
the United Nations Commission for Human Settlements (UNCHS).
She is the founding member of the Business Ethics Network
of Africa (BEN-Africa), member of the Assn. of African Women
Researchers and Developers, and editor of the Code of Ethics
for Bankers, published by the Kenya Institute of Bankers.
The author of two books on ethics used by university students
in Spain, Mexico,South American and Kenya, Dr. Gichure has
also authored numerous scholarly papers in journals such as
Philosophy of Action and Applied Ethics, Philosophy of Education
and Gender, and Business Ethics: European Review.
Professor Gichure casts her work in the context of Africa's
colonial experience, current economic stagnation, and multiple
ethnicities, while also addressing her own experience as a
woman trying to lead a cultural change.
