Maine Referenda and the Major Parties
to be Discussed at USM/L-A
October 2004
The public is invited to two election-related events to be held at USM's
Lewiston-Auburn College on Tuesday, October 26.
The first will be a forum focused on the referenda that will appear
on the November 2nd Maine ballot. There will be presentations
on each of the five referendum questions, including the property
tax cap proposal, the bear-baiting question, and whether
to allow smoking in lounges, taverns and pool halls. This
forum will be held in Room 170 from 9:00 - 11:30 a.m.
The second will be a debate entitled "Democrats, Republicans, and
the People: A Bipartisan Debate." The participants will be Maine
Attorney General Steve Rowe and Lewiston City Councilor Stavros
Mendros. This will begin at 11:30 a.m. in the upstairs lounge.
Both events will be held at USM's Lewiston-Auburn College at 51 Westminster
Street in Lewiston. The public is encouraged to attend.
