at USM/L-A
November 2004
The University of
Southern Maine at Lewiston-Auburn is collaborating with the
World Affairs Council (WAC) of Maine in providing programs
and
resources for international
education. "America: More or Less Secure?” was
the title of a debate on international and homeland security
held recently at USM/L-A. The participants were Christopher
Preble, pictured at left, Director of Foreign Policy Studies
at the CATO Institute, and Lawrence Korb, right, Senior Fellow
at the Center for American Progress and a Senior Advisor
to the Center for Defense Information. At center is Joseph
Wood, provost and vice-president for academic affairs at
USM, who served as moderator.
This forum was part of a 2004
debate series in nine U.S. cities sponsored by the Fourth
Freedom Forum, the Stanley Foundation's Strategies for National
Security Program and WAC. Another event titled "Journey
to Lewiston, Maine: Personal Narratives," is planned
for January 25 at 5:30 p.m.. This forum will highlight successful
immigrant stories and will also be held at USM/L-A.
