L-A College Organizing Amnesty International
Chapter
April 2004
Are you concerned about international affairs?
Want to work to free political prisoners? Want to end human
and civil rights abuses? If so, you may be interested in
joining a new chapter of Amnesty International that is being
organized at USM's Lewiston-Auburn College (LAC).
Faculty and students at LAC will be hosting
a meeting Wednesday, April 21 to begin organizing the group.
The chapter will be open to students, faculty, staff, and
members of the community.
Amnesty International (AI) is a worldwide
movement of people who campaign for internationally recognized
human rights. AI's vision is of a world in which every person
enjoys all of the human rights enshrined in the Universal
Declaration of Human Rights and other international human
rights standards.
AI is independent of any government, political
ideology, economic interest or religion. It does not support
or oppose any government or political system, nor does it
support or oppose the views of the victims whose rights
it seeks to protect. It is concerned solely with the impartial
protection of human rights.
The meeting at LAC will be held April 21 from
6:00 - 7:00 p.m. in Room 103. Light refreshments will be
served. All who are interested are strongly encouraged For
more information, please contact Christy Hammer at 753-6518
