The University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College will be offering their second “virtual” open house on Monday, November 24, from 2 p.m. until 7 p.m. During this time potential and current students may log on to the USM LAC web page and ask questions using an online chat feature.
USM LAC staff and faculty will be available during the open house to answer questions about both undergraduate and graduate programs, financial aid, transfer opportunities and certificate programs. “We held our first virtual open house this past August and were quite surprised at the response we received from people checking in online”, says USM LAC Director of Marketing & Information Dan Philbrick. “With our current financial times more people are now asking about how to earn a bachelors degree. They have become quite aware that their lifetime earning potential rises dramatically after earning a bachelors degree and even more so with a graduate degree. Being this area’s only University we want to make sure people know that they can complete their entire degree locally. Offering the ability to chat online allows us to interact with people with busy lives and explain what their options are”.
Regular office hours during that day will still be available and people may still call or stop by in person to chat with an advisor or faculty member up until 7 p.m. that evening. USM LAC now provides a one-stop service area where students can get advising help, register for classes, get financial aid and scholarship information and more. “Our one stop student services area has been a big success. Our students love the fact that they can literally walk into one office area and get the majority of their needs met without having to run all over the building. It’s very student-centered.” says Philbrick.

This feature is available at other various times on a regular schedule but on November 24 USM LAC will have additional people available to answer questions.
