USM LAC To Host Two Political Events

On Monday October 27 the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn College (USM LAC) will host two political events of community interest to which the public is welcome.

From 11:45-12:45 in the upstairs lounge of USM LAC, a brown bag, informal Community Conversation about the Political Process will be held. The event is intended to provide information and encourage discussion in a non-adversarial, non-partisan format to respond to such questions as:  “How does the electoral college function?” “How does the voting process work in Maine?” “What are the pros and cons of the referenda on the ballot?” “What are candidate's public positions on the issues important to our community?” Although candidates and campaign representatives are encouraged to attend this event, there will not be a formal debate, opportunity for statements or platforming. The lunch is designed to be an open conversation and sharing of diverse view points.

For more information about this event or to R.S.V.P., please email commservlac@gmail.com or call 753-6547

From 1:30-3:00 in Room 170 at USM LAC, Attorney General Steve Rowe will be addressing a group on issues related to the links between economic class and disparities in health and early education. Addressing a USM LAC Applied Social Policy class which is open to the community for this event, Attorney General Rowe will address the fundamental disconnect between what we know about the importance of early education and preventive health care and what we do about early education and preventive health care.

To attend this event, please R.S.V.P. to Michelle Vazquez Jacobus at 753-6534 or mjacobus@usm.maine.edu
