USM Golden Key Chapter Inducts Honorary Members

 

 

The USM Golden Key International Honour Society Chapter held its induction ceremony recently at Hannaford Lecture Hall on USM’s Portland campus. This was the first year that all five of the honorary inductees were from Lewiston-Auburn area. The honorary inductees were: Chip Morrison, President, Androscoggin Chamber of Commerce; Dr. Zark VanZandt, Dean of USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College; Dr. Blake Whitaker, USM Associate Professor of Natural and Applied Sciences; Peter Geiger, Executive VP Geiger Brothers; and Rep. Elaine Makas. District 71 State Representative. USM Golden Key Vice President Heidi Pushard presented the honorary awards. USM student Karen Fischer, Leadership & Organizational studies major, was awarded the Senior GK Scholarship Award and Sandra Austin, USM Nursing major, received the junior scholarship award.  Pres. Richard Pattenaude assisted Secretary, Anne Liss in presenting new membership certificates and congratulating the new inductees to the Society. In all there were 100 new inductees from all 3 USM campuses.

With almost 30 years of rich tradition, Golden Key is the premier college/university honor society in the world, with more than 1.6 million members in 335 chapters in the United States and several other countries.  This global nonprofit organization grants academic recognition to college juniors and seniors in the top 15 percent of their class.  It also provides scholarships, leadership development, community service and career networking opportunities.  Society membership is by invitation only and is extended to qualified students in all fields of study.
