USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College will be offering a course this summer entitled “French Language and Maine Society” (HUM 125). This is an introductory course for the French language. Conversational and grammatical basics will be covered. Students will also learn about the cultural context of French society in Maine and eastern North America. In addition to the language and cultural background that this course provides, students will visit local Franco-American organizations and explore their linguistic and cultural connections. Students will be assigned projects at these organizations to help build these connections as well showcase their knowledge acquisition.
The class will be taught by Colleen Lepage, adjunct Humanities instructor at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn College. Lepage holds a B.A in French from St. Michael's College, Vermont and a M.Ed. from University of Maine, Orono. She is certified to teach French in Maine for grades K-12, and her past teaching experiences include schools in Maine and Boston.
This three-credit course will meet Mondays & Wednesdays, 9:00 - 11:30 a.m., beginning May 14 and continues through June 29. Registration is open through the first week of classes.
