The public is invited to attend a special event Wednesday, February 28, at USM’s Lewiston-Auburn campus. The legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. will be honored with a panel discussion highlighting one of his most critical speeches “Beyond Vietnam, A Time to Break Silence”. A reception begins at 4 p.m. and light refreshments will be served. The program begins at 4:30 p.m. in the USM/L-A function room. The entire event is free and open to the public. Highlights of the program include excerpts of Dr. King’s speech being read by members of a local youth group, and Native-American students performing a drumming and honor song.
The event is being co-sponsored by NAACP Portland Branch, Peace Action Maine, City of Lewiston, City of Auburn, Bates College, Lewiston Library, Auburn Library, USM Office of Provost, USM Office of Campus Diversity & Equity, USM Office of Multicultural Student Affairs, USM/Lewiston-Auburn College, and the Lewiston-Auburn College Diversity Committee.
