Participants in the Great Mousetrap race at USM/L-A |
May 2006
The “Eighth Annual Mousetrap Car Race” was held recently at the University of Southern Maine’s Lewiston-Auburn campus (USM/L-A). This event, conducted by students and faculty at USM/L-A, pits students from the Auburn Middle School (AMS) against college students in the Applied Physics class. Judges for the event included art teachers, USM/L-A faculty members, and two noted racing car drivers who also displayed a stock car in the campus parking lot. Pictured here with the racers are the top finishers in the drag race. From left to right are USM/L-A students Shannon Linton and Kevin Smith, (second place); Local racers Jeremy Whorff and Jason Simpkins; AMS students Gabe Hoy (first place) and Tia Leblond (third place). In addition to the main drag race, the AMS students also entered their cars in various categories. The first place winners were Tia Leblond, fastest car; Gabe Hoy, furthest distance; Patrick Rogers, artistic merit; and Anthony Deschaines, technological excellence.
