Dean Zark VanZandt has announced that
the 2006 Summer Session at USM's Lewiston-Auburn will
open May 15 with open registration set to begin April
21.
In addition to a number of general
academic and science courses, new courses in "Conflict
Management" and "Organizational Consulting:
Internal and External," will be offered through
the leadership and organizational studies program. The
social and behavioral sciences program will offer a
course in "Family Systems" and one in "Responding
to Mental Health Crises in Communities."
A new graduate course titled "College
in Maine: The Aspirations Trail," will be taught
by Dean VanZandt. This course, designed for elementary,
middle school, high school, and college educators, will
visit various community college and University of Maine
System campuses in an effort to highlight the challenges,
aspirations, and opportunities associated with higher
education in Maine.
A number of graduate courses for teachers
will be offered through USM's College of Education and
Human Development and the Professional Development Center.
These include the following: Linguistics & Cultural
Diversity
Language Testing & Assessment
Problems in Literacy Assessment
Critical & Creative Thinking
Content-Based Curriculum for ESL
Best Practices in Adolescent Literacy
Instructional Strategies and Materials for Elementary
Classrooms
Science Content for Elementary Teachers
Most summer classes meet twice a week
and run for 7 weeks. The first seven-week session begins
the week of May 15, and the second one begins July 5.

or variable schedule. The
