USMs L-A College Launches Franco-American
Resources Website
The University of Southern Maines Lewiston-Auburn College
has initiated a valuable web resource for area residents interested
in learning more about the history and culture of Franco-America.
The core part of this site contains extensive information
on the Colleges Franco-American Heritage Collection,
and the French North American studies concentration, a course
of study offered through the arts and humanities program.
Links to other USM resources such as the Franco-Atlantic Module
of the International Studies Major, are also included. The
site also provides information and photographs about Franco-
American events and activities, such as the convocation titled
Rêves et Réalités de la Franco-Amérique
(Dreams and Realities of Franco-America) held at L-A College
last spring. The website is also linked to the Consortium
of Franco- America (CFA), the Maine Franco-American Studies
Alliance (MFASA), the Northern Appalachian Geographic &
Archeological Survey, and the Année Francophone Internationale.
The history and culture of Franco-America is both rich and
diverse. . . . and because of this diversity, the identities
of Franco-America are a challenge to describe, notes
Dr. Rodrigue. This website offers thoughts and feelings,
facts and creativity, historical links and media connections
- a small window into the ever-changing world of Franco-America.
The website is located at usm.maine.edu/lac/francoresources.
The public is also invited to visit the Franco-American Heritage
Collection at L-A College on Mondays and Wednesdays, 8:30
to 5:00, and Thursdays, 8:00 to noon. For more information,
please call the Collection at 753-6545, or Dr. Rodrigue at
753-6574.
